I am not sure how others would describe me except some say I am always in a good mood. My own description: Active, energetic, neither rich nor impoverished, generally considered good company and fun, friendly, interested and interesting, flexible, hospitable, healthy, honest, attractive but not extraordinary. Originally from Europe; multilingual, many interests but none passionately, perhaps best described as a multi-faceted introspective extrovert who likes being with people, yet cherishes privacy, likes and grants others their personal sphere.just an ordinary human with strengths and foibles. When traveling, I prefer creature comforts over roughing it; I'd have more fun not travelling alone, as I have been. When I was younger it bothered me that the dating relationships (few) and other friendships often became rather unilateral, i.e. I invested a lot of myself for little in return. Now, it does not bother me any more (and I am not saying this in a tone of resignation), I do things for people without expecting anything in return because if I don't expect anything, I cannot be disappointed, in fact am positively surprised if I am thanked.

I don't have a stereotype concept of the "ideal man" I'd like to meet, and I am well aware that every good relationship requires compromise. He should have a romantic streak, not be too boring or rigid or set in his ways, not completely devoid of libido…a friend and partner who is generous with hugs and might lend a shoulder to lean on once in a while, someone with whom to make long-range plans or undertake something on the spur of the moment, with whom to discuss ideas, pleasures or concerns and who manages to communicate his own thoughts, who might also enjoy going to a concert, the theater, a movie, public and/or private events, or even crazy festivals, who likes to dance, share a meal or with whom to enjoy silence, someone with old-fashioned ethics and a progressive mind who is not afraid to admit to human feelings and foibles. Being a best friend would be a good start. I don't expect him to live just around the corner or even in the same state, country or continent.it might be worth the extra distance to get to know each other. My funniest life experience:

Years ago, almost running late to teach a class and about to leave home with a perfect hairdo that just needed a bit of hairspray to make it hold in high winds in Labrador, instead I sprayed a foaming cleaner all over my hairp; somehow I rescued it, I don't quite remember how, but I made it to class in time, not looking perfectly groomed but still fairly acceptable. Later on, I was able to laugh about it.

Decades ago, a French movie, "Arsenic and Old Lace", because it was s o funny.no one will remember that any more. Today, I sometimes watch television very late at night, 2-3 movies at the same time, and I don't even know the titles. If I do try to watch a movie on TV, it bothers me that there are so many commercials that I become impatient. I bought a few cassettes, watched them, but they did not become my favorites (Titanic, Centennial.a whole series.)

Most people feel at ease with me; often virtual strangers "dump" on me. I am a good listener and don't criticize them for their foibles. I am not sure that the personalities of others have helped me improve or to be myself but I have certainly seen traits that I decided I definitely would not want to emulate.

Are you willing to compromise in difficult times and situations?

I sat on a number of boards for several decades, and that meant compromising in so many situations (or using diplomacy to try and make others compromise, of course) that I really don't remember. But life, at least in my humble opinion, is a series of daily compromises.

I am really trying to meet someone but also have certain likes and dislikes on which I don't really feel like compromising: I smoke and therefore prefer smokers and I prefer tall men; I am not courageous, hence am not particularly interested in motorcycle fans, and a few other things.

Of course I am looking for a new beginning but not because I have baggage in my past but simply because every new relationship is a daring beginning, especially at a somewhat advanced age; but the past will always continue into the future, it is what has shaped us, has given us character, has caused our likes and dislikes. I don't believe putting all that behind is really possible; it would be like jumping over one's own shadow.

My typical day:

Any dating experience would would be a nice experience because I have not dated decades. A working day would be reading the paper with tea or coffee, then a shower and going downstairs to my home office and computer, downloading the latest messages and eliminating 50 others. Then determining what urgent jobs my city office has sent that need immediate handling, perhaps discussing them with my office. Then getting to work on them. In between there will be phone calls. I might go upstairs a few times for more tea or coffee, quick lunch at a convenient time between jobs or whenever hunger pangs hit. At supper, I'll turn on the TV for news. I work late, often very late. Saturdays or Sundays are different, the greatest pleasure being breakfast and then crawling back in bed for a few hours (catching up because during the week I'm a late-night owl.) Then it's food and other shopping, perhaps followed by an invitation to dinner by friends or a fun event with friends. Occasionally, I go to brunch on Sundays with a friend and choir practice a few Sundays, also sometimes performances. Before going to sleep, I read a few minutes (also with lunch, supper, there is always a book around.)

Hm, when I was younger, I always thought it would be great to be a beach-bumb but always had the problem of having to make money; and I am sure that I would have become bored quickly being one soon after trying. I have never been very courageous, never would have even dreamed about bungee jumping, hang-gliding, mountain climbing, etc. But once, as a highschool student, I ran in front of a huge black locomotive at full speed (the locomotive) to catch the train, and that big beast is still in front of my eyes whenever I close them. A close escape. I'd like to travel more with a good friend instead of alone.
