Compromise is the foundation of any good relationship. Convictions may be strong but unless you can dig deep and accept differences for what they are, then you cannot love another human being.
The last girlfriend I had did not want me hanging around a girl I had been friends with for a long time. She was afraid this girl would try and steal me from her. Needless to say that I did not like the prospect of not talking to this friend but I understood her concern. I agreed to only see the friend while she was present, and actually they became quite goof friends.

Personally, a fantastic date revolves around a fantastic person. It doesn't matter what we do or where we go as long as the person with me is interesting and fun. Also, as I am quite comfortable in most situations, my perfect date would depend on whether or not the person I was with was comfortable as well. I could pretty much go anywhere or do anything as long as you promise to have fun!
